What is Qigong?
Like acupuncture, Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”) is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Qigong is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate life force energy (Chi or Qi) throughout the body’s meridians or energy pathways, resulting in improved joint and organ health, balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, focus, and relaxation.
What’s the difference between Qigong and Tai Chi?
Although the movements involved in Qigong and Tai Chi are very similar, there are two important differences between Qigong and Tai Chi. The main difference is that Qigong is primarily practiced just for health, where Tai Chi is practiced for health AND is a martial art with self-defense and martial applications. Second, Qigong practice is meant to build life force energy (Chi or Qi), where Tai Chi practice is meant to move life force energy. So Qigong practice typically involves less movement and is more simple than Tai Chi.
